BRIARPATCH MAGAZINE – This quarterly magazine publishes writing on a wide range of topics, including current events, electoral politics, economic justice, grassroots activism, food security, gender equity, international solidarity, and other issues if political importance. They welcome queries from unpublished and seasoned writers, front-line activists and anyone else with a story to tell. They pay $75 for profiles, short essays, reviews, parting shots (generally <1000 words), $150 for feature stories, photo essays, and $225 for research-based articles and investigative reportage (generally 1500-3000 words).
