BRIARPATCH MAGAZINE – This quarterly magazine publishes writing on a wide range of topics, including current events, electoral politics, economic justice, grassroots activism, food security, gender equity, international solidarity, and other issues if political importance. They welcome queries from unpublished and seasoned writers, front-line activists and anyone else with a story to tell. They pay $75 for profiles, short essays, reviews, parting shots (generally <1000 words), $150 for feature stories, photo essays, and $225 for research-based articles and investigative reportage (generally 1500-3000 words).

THE OLD SCHOOLHOUSE – TOS is a quarterly trade magazine for homeschoolers. They are open to queries with well-structured article proposals and examples of your previously published work. Articles must be previously unpublished and not sell any product. Maximum word count is 800. Payment is $50 per accepted article. They have a list of special features and themes for upcoming issues.
