Even during my few weeks away from the site, I continued to get emails from people asking about how to be a freelance writer. Some ask for recommendations for books on becoming a freelance writer, others have asked for a step-by-step rundown on how to be a freelance writer, and some have even gone as far as asking me if I can share my work or give them some of my clients. (In case you’re not sure, that’s kind of a no-no. No freelance writer is going to just hand over their clients just because you want them. Just sayin’.)
The best I can do is tell you to put together a portfolio of writing samples and pitch your ass off. Pitch, apply for writing jobs, and then pitch some more.
You can find a list of writing books that I’ve found helpful over the years here.
Here are a few I’d recommend for freelance writing specifically:
The Renegade Writer: A Totally Unconventional Guide to Freelance Writing Success
The Essential Guide to Freelance Writing: How to Write, Work, and Thrive on Your Own Terms
If you’re a successful freelancer who wants to share some words of wisdom or recommend a book that you found helpful, we’d all love to hear from you! Leave a comment below or drop me a message
