Today’s list is a good one, complete with freelance writing jobs for beginners and seasoned writers located anywhere. Along with online writing jobs, there are also a few great on-site Canadian writing jobs for my fellow country peeps. Finally, there are a couple of calls for submissions.

Remote Writing Jobs (Work-from-Home/Online Writing Jobs)

COMMERCE WRITERS – Bustle Digital Group is looking for experienced commerce writers with 2+ experience writing commerce or affiliate content. You must also have SEO experience. Sales copy experience is a plus. These are part-time remote writing jobs. You must be available during business hours, 2-4 days per week, Monday to Friday. Read more/apply

BEAUTY COMMERCE WRITER – Bustle is hiring writer to write affiliate content on all things beauty. This is a part-time, remote writing job for an experienced beauty writer with at least a year of experience in reporting, writing, and ideally, SEO. Read more/apply

COPYWRITER FOR LEGAL TOPICS – A San Francisco law firm is hiring a writer to create content for their website and blog. This is a work from home writing job for an experienced writer who is able to break down complex information into something easy to understand. A legal background is not required, but excellent writing skills are. Read more/apply

TECHNICAL WRITERS – GitLab is hiring technical writers. These are remote writing jobs with no specific geographical requirements. They’re looking for writers who can create clear, correct, and complete documentation and dive in on special projects, author new content and improve existing content. Read more/apply

SCIENCE WRITERS – Shmoop is hiring Project-Based Curriculum Science Writers to write engaging lessons, including lectures and example problems. These are online writing jobs with the flexibility to work from anywhere. You must have a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field with a GPA of 3.7+ and the ability to express scientific concepts in and engaging way. Read more/apply

WRITERS FOR BABY TOPICS – Kidsimplified is hiring creative writers to produce content on babies, pregnancy, and parenthood. These are work-from-home writing jobs open to experienced writers anywhere. Along with writing experience, you should have in-depth knowledge of these topics and be able to write in a friendly, authoritative tone. Read more/apply

HEALTH & FITNESS WRITERS – FitDay.com and 3FatChicks.com are looking for healthy-living writers to write fun, conversation, informative articles to cover health, fitness, nutrition, and lifestyle topics. Payment is only $30 per article, so this is probably better suited to new writers looking for freelance writing jobs for beginners to build their portfolio. Both sites do get a lot of traffic so the exposure would be great. Read more/apply

WRITERS TO COVER BOAT TOPICS – BetterBoat.com is looking for writers who are passionate about boats. They’re looking for writers (work-from-home) to write at least one 1,200 word blog post per week. The pay is $70 paid via Paypal (they cover the fees). They want to see writing samples and know about your experience with boats when you apply. This is not a ghostwriting job – you’ll get credit for your work. There is an opportunity for part-time or full-time work if they like your writing. Read more/apply

Canadian Writing Jobs (On-site Jobs for Writers in Canada ONLY)

FREELANCE WRITERS (CANNABIS INDUSTRY) – HelloMD is hiring freelance writers with a solid background in the cannabis industry. You can work remotely, but they prefer writers who are based in the Toronto area. You must have 3-5 years of professional online writing and/or digital marketing experience to be considered for this Canadian writing job. Strong familiarity with AP Style and SEO and UV best practices are also required. Read more/apply

SENIOR COPYWRITER – Shoppers Drug Mart is hiring a senior copywriter to work in Toronto. You should have 7 to 10 years of experience in copywriting/communications/advertising, as well as experience researching, writing and editing pharmacy marketing materials. A thorough understanding of digital best practices, design, UX, and web information architecture. Read more/apply

FREELANCE WRITER – TalentEgg is hiring a freelance article/editorial writer. This freelance writing job is open to current students and graduates. You should have excellent writing and researching skills, be creative, and be able to turn facts and information into engaging, easy-to-follow articles. This is listed as a freelance writing job, but doesn’t specify it’s a remote or on-site opportunity. They are located in Toronto. Read more/apply

COPYWRITER – Dead Famous in Vancouver is hiring a copywriter with a “mix of writing ability, business knowledge, and at least some familiarity with one or more of the social sciences”. You must have a minimum of 2 years of agency experience, an impressive portfolio, and strong social skills. Read more/apply

MANAGING EDITOR/PRODUCER, LIFESTYLE CONTENT – TD Wealth is hiring a managing editor/producer to lead Moneytalk’s lifestyle content work and lifestyle team. You will ensure content is ready for publishing and supervise schedule, assignments, publishing, and create content and manage multiple lifestyle content formats. This is a full-time, on-site writing job in Toronto, Ontario for a seasoned professional with 10 years of media/editorial experience and proven experience in social media content success. Calls for Submissions

RED SUN MAGAZINE – They publish science-fiction, horror, and fantasy and are always open to submissions between 3,000-5,000 words, up to 17,000 words, though 3,000-5,000 is preferred. They will also consider complete serials up to 80,000 words. In addition to fiction, they also want articles, interviews and reviews relevant to the genres they publish. Pay is $100 USD for stories; $150 USD for stories of 15,000-17,000 words, and $300 for serializations. They do not currently pay for nonfiction.

CONTEMPORARY VERSE 2 – This quarterly literary journal published poetry and critical writing about poetry, including articles, essays, interviews, and reviews. Their reading period ends May 31. They are open to:

  • Poetry, no more than 6 pages
  • Interviews, no more than 6-8 pages in length, double-spaced
  • Articles, no more than 3-4 pages, double-spaced
  • Essays, no more than 2-4 pages, double-spaced
  • Reviews between 600-1000 words, double-spaced

Payment is as follows:

  • Poetry: $30 per poem
  • Interviews: $50-$100, depending on length
  • Articles: $50-$100, depending on length
  • Essays: $40-$150, depending on length
  • Reviews: $50-$80, depending on length
